Jackson RR3 Randy Rhoads Electric Guitar
Wicked style. Peerless quality. Erogenous tone. These are the essence of the Jackson RR3. The eponymous brainchild of Randy Rhoads and the extreme minds at Jackson, this guitar sports double Duncan humbuckers, a Floyd-Rose licensed double-locking tremolo, and a playability to match its envelope-pushing design.
The sweet, responsive low action across the rosewood fretboard’s 22 jumbo frets absolutely begs to be danced with, and the crisp clarity from the Duncans all the way up and down factor in to making this piece a solid shooter in your face-melting arsenal, particularly if you like to some real drive and crunch in your tone. The Jackson RR3 guitar brilliantly pushes good clarity through even the heaviest of distortions (I generally play one through a POD XT Live and a Peavey 6505), making this a great pick if you have a penchant for heavier music styles.
Every detail about the RR3 is pure Jackson, through and through. From the sharkfin-style inlays at each fret to their trademark headstock, I’ve really enjoyed the way this guitar looks as much as the way it plays. And playing a lot of metal and edgy stuff, it’s really had a decent stage presence at my last couple of gigs.
Overall, I’d give the Jackson RR3 an 8 out of 10 rating. It’s sick-looking, sweet-sounding, and boasts the kind of Jackson quality I’ve come to expect from about ten years of playing. If you haven’t ever played a Jackson, definitely pick the Jackson RR3 up next time you’re in your local shop; you might get a little bit spoiled.
